Next Stop: San Diego… with GOODIES!

It’s time again for The San Diego Comic-Con! My latest book isn’t quite finished… but I will have a few convention-exclusive goodies for sale at the show for all of the loyal Owly fans! The first one is something my mom and I have been working on for quite some time. You can see the end-result on the right… It’s an Owly Hat!!! Each one is hand-made by my mom but supplies are limited, so you’ll have to get yours quickly! If we run out before you get one or if you can’t make it out to the show, don’t worry. We’ll offer them online as soon as she can make more. :) Check back here after Owly, Book 4 comes out for more details!

In San Diego you’ll be able to find Owly and me at the Top Shelf booth (Booth #1721) along with Robert Venditti, Matt Kindt, Jeremy Tinder, Christian Slade, Andy Hartzell, Jeff Lemire, David Yurkovich, Jose Villarrubia, Renee French, Eddie Campbell, Jeffrey Brown, and many more wonderful members of the Top Shelf family!

At the show I’ll be signing books, doing “Owly As…”sketches, and have original Owly pages for sale! I’ve even done a series of full-color paintings for the show that you can see below! These are one-of-a-kind pieces so they won’t be cheap, but they’ll make a wonderful gift that special Owly fan. Each original painting measures 3″x4″ and is hand-painted by yours truly. They come mounted with little black Owly-style photo-corners on color-coordinated 5″x7″ card-stock and ready to frame! :)

I’m going to be signing everyday for as long as I can and I’ll also be on a panel with lots of my friends called The Many Faces of the Graphic Novel on Thursday at 12:30. It’s going to be a crazy amazing show! See you there!!! :D

Really nice Andy. I can’t wait for the Chicago show! Any chance you’ll have any paintings or other exclusives for that show?

Hey Brian,
Unfortunately I won’t be at the Chicago show this year. I have to stay home and finish up Owly Volume 4. I definitely plan on being there next year! :)

Andy, those are AMAZING! You mom is amazing! Did she do the logo embroidery too? Cute, cute, cute!!

I won’t be at con again this year (big sigh) because of work, but I will be sending my boy Mark over to your table to nab some of your goods! That hat is a total must-have…and perhaps an Owly sketch to sit between my pages :)

Hey Andy!

I caught you at Comic-Con last year, so I’m totally going back to your booth again!

Do you have a final price on those hats? I LOVE them, and I just want to make sure I budget right!

Thanks.

I bought an Owly Hat at comicon.

It’s my new favorite possession; I wear it everywhere, which is pretty silly — middle aged men wearing owly hats are not adorable to everyone. I want to buy them as Xmas gifts.

Tell mom to start sewing!

I picked up a Owly beanie at WW Chicago for my 2 year old daughter and she loved it… “Daddy, der is wormy!” she wore it around the rest of the day. Thanks for all your important work. Hope to see you at a con again soon.

I was so thrilled to see you at Baltimore Comic Con last Saturday (Sept 8, 2007!) Thank you very much for the cute sketch of Owly as a doctor and Wormy as his patient. I can’t wait to show it off to my friends! Next time, I would like a sketch of Owly, Wormy and Friends singing karaoke (FYI, I met my husband, Marc, at karaoke:)

I also want to take this opportunity to thank you for simply being so nice and accommodating! I am looking forward to your next Owly book. I have no doubts that it’s going to be another big hit! Kudos!

Hey Andy,

I could cry for having to sit here in Germany, not having the chance to grab one of the loveliest hats I’ve ever ever seen, or to meet the man who showed me again how important it is to stay a child and enjoy the simple things in life.

Andy – you’re truly my hero for bringing Owly, Wormy and the others to life and filling mine with such joy.
And Andy’s Mum – if you don’t mind sending one of those cute hats out to Germany, I’d be the happiest person on earth and would proudly wear my Owly hat on the way to work every day.

Thanks for making me smile everytime I see the cutest owl in the whole world… (and thanks for publishing the books here as well so I was able to infect my friends and family with the Owly-fever =)

*hugs* all the way over the ocean,
Conny aka MoonSoleil

Andy, it was great to meet you at DragonCon! My students were impressed with the Owly hat I got there, and they exhibited dazed looks of amazement when I told them that I *met* you.
The ride home from the con was mostly silent…all my car mates were reading your books. :-)

I can’t wait for the next installment of Owly’s life!

Cheers and Peace and Happy Reading,
Laura

PS My second graders are in for a real treat – I am going to use The Way Home & The Bittersweet Summer as a novel study with them later this year – thank you for creating Owly!
