'Owly'
By Andy Runton (Top Shelf)
"Never heard of him," I thought. I looked at it a bit. It looked very cute, so I decided to check it out.
Cute was just what it was! The drawings where absolutely adorable. The book also didn't have any words. Instead it had only interjections, pictures and punctuation marks.
"Owly" is a three-part illustrated book series about an owl who lives in a tree. He is very lonely. But he soon makes some friends. First he makes friends with a worm he rescues from a puddle. Wormy then decides to live with him. Owly also makes friends with a couple of hummingbirds named Angel and Tiny. He rescues them from a cage and buys them flowers to drink from. He is very sad when they tell him that they have to go South for the winter. He asks them not to go, but they have to because there are no more flowers left in bloom. Owly waves goodbye, sniffling, then plants some flowers for next spring. The next year, Angel and Tiny come back just in time for the flowers. Owly is delighted! It's a very happy story.
Owly is a great series about hope, friendship and caring for others. It is great for the holiday season. The books will make great stocking stuffers (if you have book-shaped feet -- hee hee!). I know I'm hoping for the newest one for Christmas.
